Topic:
Protecting Your Organization from High Risk and Fictitious Third Parties
Objectives:
In recent years, anonymous shell companies have been used more often to circumvent sanctions lists, disguise corrupt payments, engage in large internal and external fraud, and bypass internal controls. One of the greatest risks to an organization is engaging in business transactions with unknown third parties and having little transparency into who the entity is, who is it controlled by, and where payments go to and originate from. Current 3rd party due diligence, procurement and compliance processes are designed to help mitigate these risks, but anonymous shell companies are finding their way past these controls and altering the risk landscape. This interactive session will focus on:
Highlighting the use of anonymous shell companies in international fraud, embezzlement, corruption and money laundering cases.
Discuss how anonymous shell companies can circumvent current due diligence processes
Highlight the challenges of identifying and investigating anonymous shell companies, determining their purpose and the true owners/beneficiaries.
Discuss potential solutions for enhancing current due diligence, audit and compliance processes to help prevent and detect potential anonymous shell companies.
